He began his professional career in 2004 with the ECHL team "Florida Everblades," after a successful college career. In his debut season, Chris played 83 games and scored 38 points (7 goals and 31 assists). In a total of three seasons with the "Florida" team, Lee recorded 107 points (28 goals and 79 assists) in 189 games and also participated in the league's All-Star game.

After the 2006/07 season, when Lee played for three American Hockey League teams, he signed a contract with the "Iowa Stars" club. During his time with the Stars, he recorded 28 points (7 goals and 21 assists) in 68 games. On July 4, 2008, Chris signed a contract with the NHL team "New York Islanders," but during a preseason exhibition game against the "Florida Panthers," he suffered a serious injury in a collision with Panthers player Rostislav Olesz. On July 5, 2009, Chris signed a contract with the "Pittsburgh Penguins," but before the start of the season, he was sent to their AHL affiliate, the "Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins." He recorded 40 points (9 goals and 31 assists) in 83 games with the team. On August 3, 2010, Lee made the decision to move to Europe and signed a one-year contract with the German Hockey League club "Kolner Haie," where he recorded 24 points (8 goals and 16 assists) in 48 games. On April 17, 2011, Chris joined another German club, the "Adler Mannheim," signing a one-year contract. With his new team, Lee reached the league finals and was named the tournament's best defenseman, tallying 49 points (14 goals and 45 assists) in 62 games.
On April 25, 2012, Chris left Germany and signed a two-year contract with the Swedish Elite League club "Färjestad." In the 2012/13 season, Lee became the league's top-scoring defenseman, recording 53 points (19 goals and 34 assists) in 64 games. After this success, rumors of interest from Russian clubs started to circulate, and on April 26, 2013, Lee made the decision to sign a two-year contract with the Magnitogorsk "Metallurg" in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). On September 6, he made his debut in the KHL against Moscow "Dynamo," and two days later, he recorded his first point in the league with an assist against Podolsk "Vityaz."
