Christian's exact lineage is unknown, but historians believe he may have descended from the Billung family. Little is documented about his early life.
Marriage and Family
Christian married Hidda, daughter of Count Thietmar of Nordthüringgau and Schwabengau. It is believed that Christian inherited his titles after Thietmar's death in the 930s.
Military and Political Career
On May 1, 945, German King Otto I the Great granted Christian extensive lands in the district of Serimunt, along with the title of Margrave. Christian's role in defending the borderlands of the Holy Roman Empire against Slavic incursions was likely significant.
Death and Legacy
The exact date of Christian's death is unknown, but it is believed to have occurred around 951. He was buried in Magdeburg, according to the chronicler Thietmar of Merseburg. Christian was succeeded by his eldest son, Thietmar I.
