Early Life and Military Career
Colonel Azuba was born on the island of Anjouan in the Comoros. He initially served in the police force. In the 1980s, he underwent specialized training as a member of the Presidential Guard under the leadership of French mercenaries commanded by Bob Denard.
1995 Coup d'État
In September 1995, Denard orchestrated a fourth military coup against the Comorian government. Colonel Azuba was chosen to lead the state as Chairman of the Military Committee of the Comoros.
French Intervention
However, Azuba's reign was short-lived. On October 2, French troops staged Operation Azalee, successfully subduing Denard's and Azuba's supporters. Azuba was deposed, and the political order was restored.
Assassination
On June 13, 2010, Colonel Azuba was assassinated in his home in Moroni, the capital of the Comoros. The incident raised concerns, as other high-ranking Comorian officials received death threats in the aftermath of his murder.
