Early Life and Religious Career

Luis Antonio de Borbón y Farnesio was born on July 25, 1727, in Madrid, Spain. As the son of King Philip V and his second wife, Isabella Farnese, he was an Infante of Spain and the 13th Count of Chinchón. At the tender age of eight, he became a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1735.

In the same year, he was appointed Archbishop of Toledo. On December 19, 1735, Pope Clement XII made him a cardinal, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest cardinal in history. Throughout his ecclesiastical career, Luis Antonio supported notable figures such as the composer Luigi Boccherini, the architect Ventura Rodríguez, and the painter Francisco Goya.

Renunciation of Ecclesiastical Career and Title of Count

On December 18, 1754, Luis Antonio renounced his religious titles and resumed the title of Count of Chinchón. This decision marked a significant departure from his previous path.

On June 27, 1776, Luis Antonio entered into a morganatic marriage with María Teresa de Vallabriga. Their union produced three children:

Luis María de Borbón y Vallabriga (1777-1823): Infante of Spain, Cardinal, Archbishop of Seville and Toledo, 14th Count of Chinchón

María Luisa de Borbón y Vallabriga (1780-1846)

Luis Antonio passed away in disgrace on August 7, 1785, in Arenas de San Pedro, Spain.
