From Theatrical Project to Ukraine's Largest Ethno Group
The Ukrainian group known for their "ethno-chaos" style, DakhaBrakha, has become a sensation in Ukraine and around the world. The group's music takes listeners on a journey through time and space, immersing them in the essence of eternity. DakhaBrakha's story began at the Dakh Center for Contemporary Art, where Vlad Troitsky, the leader of the experimental theater project Dakh, proposed the formation of a musical ethno group. Marco Halanevych, who was tasked with finding young talents, assembled the group, which included four folklorists: Nina Harenetska, Iryna Kovalenko, Alina Tsybulska, and Oleksandra Garbuzova (who later left the project).

A Fusion of Traditional and Exotic Instruments
The members of DakhaBrakha are professional folklorists who gather material for their songs on ethnographic expeditions to Ukrainian villages. They draw inspiration from the energy of elderly people who sing ancient songs, and they believe that these songs are the best source of inspiration. However, DakhaBrakha takes a different approach to preserving and sharing this energy. Instead of reproducing the songs exactly as they were, the group combines Ukrainian folk songs with various folk music traditions, such as Arabic and Indian melodies. They also incorporate other genres of music as long as it is of high quality and professionalism. DakhaBrakha's unique sound is created using a wide range of traditional instruments, including exotic ones like the Australian didgeridoo, the West African djembe, and the Buddhist gong.

A Unique Blend of Culture and Music
DakhaBrakha's distinctive stage presence sets them apart from other ethno groups. Their long skirts, authentic shirts, beaded necklaces, and, most importantly, their unconventional headwear reflect a mix of cultures beyond Ukraine. The group's music is a reflection of this cultural blend. The name DakhaBrakha comes from two Old Ukrainian words that mean "to give" and "to take." This reflects the group's philosophy of exchanging energy with the audience and sharing the energy they receive from nature, other musicians, and traditional folk songs.

From Theater to Global Recognition
Initially, DakhaBrakha was intended to be part of theatrical productions. Their first notable performance was in the play "Prologue to Macbeth," a free interpretation of Shakespeare's play. Over time, DakhaBrakha evolved into an independent musical group and gained recognition beyond the theater scene. With the release of their debut album, "Na dobriy vechir" (Goodnight) in 2006, DakhaBrakha gained popularity in Ukraine. They were soon invited to perform at various rock and ethno festivals, which led to international recognition. DakhaBrakha has performed in Russia, Poland, Hungary, France, England, and many other countries. Their unique music has captivated audiences, particularly in Europe, where they are celebrated for their originality and authenticity. The group's music style is often described as ethno-chaos, psychedelic folk, or world music, but their compositions often defy categorization. Their albums range from authentic folk songs to experimental and genre-defying compositions. DakhaBrakha continuously explores and collaborates with musicians from different cultures to create unique and original works.

Sharing Positive Energy
DakhaBrakha's music showcases the best of Ukraine and radiates an incredible positive energy that resonates with people. The group's dedication to their audience is evident in everything they do. DakhaBrakha's music and performances are a gift to the world, bringing people together through an extraordinary musical experience.
