Dan Cortese, an American actor, was born in 1967 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From a young age, he had a passion for sports and later became a football player for the University of North Carolina. During his time at university, Cortese, who had a unique and unconventional appearance, developed an interest in television. After graduating, he started working as a production assistant for MTV Sports.
Remaining in this position from 1992 to 1997, he gained valuable experience and was ready to try his hand at acting. In the early 1990s, he successfully auditioned and joined the cast of the sitcom "Seinfeld." Shortly after, he landed a significant role in another television show called "Route 66," where his character, Arthur Clarke, impressed both critics and viewers. This success opened doors for Cortese, and he appeared in several other TV series such as "Caroline in the City," "The Single Guy," "Veronica's Closet," and others.
However, like any aspiring actor, Cortese aspired to land roles in movies. In 1993, he had his first film role in the sci-fi action film "Demolition Man," although it was a minor role. The film starred Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes and was a worldwide success. This marked the beginning of Cortese's journey in the film industry.
During the 1990s, Cortese also became the face of a fast-food advertising campaign and earned the nickname "Dan Dan: The Whopper Man" due to his frequent appearances near hamburgers. As his roles grew more significant, he received more invitations for film and television projects. In 1996, he played his first leading role in the thriller "The Lottery" directed by Daniel Sackheim. In 2000, he starred in the comedy film "After Sex," directed by Cameron Thor, and in 2001, he appeared in the television thriller "The Triangle," directed by Lewis Teague.
One of Cortese's recent acting projects includes the family comedy "Soccer Mom," and as of 2010, he is preparing for his producer debut with the film "Born to Rock," in which he will also co-produce alongside David Duchovny.
Dan Cortese is married to actress Dee Dee Hemby, and they have two children.
