Daniel Donigan: American Rock Guitarist
Early Life and CareerAmerican musician and guitarist Daniel Donigan is best known for his work with the rock band Disturbed. Donigan's passion for guitar began in his teenage years, leading him to form a band called Vandal.
Inclusion in "Chop Shop" List
In recognition of his exceptional talent, Donigan was ranked 76th on "Chop Shop's" list of "Top 100 Most Complete Guitar Players of All Time."
Long Hair Controversy
Donigan's long hair became an iconic part of his image during his early days with Brawl and Disturbed. Despite being required to cut his hair for his work on a construction site with his father, Donigan cleverly wore a wig to deceive him and preserve his flowing locks. Eventually, his father relented and allowed him to maintain his distinctive hairstyle.
Family Life
Donigan is a devoted family man, with a daughter named Maya and a son named Justin. His wife, Nicole, is the mother of both children.
Disturbed's Guitarist
As a key member of Disturbed, Donigan initially played Gibson Les Paul Standards and SGs. He later transitioned to Paul Reed Smith (PRS) guitars, favoring the McCarty Tremonti model and PRS Singlecut. In 2005, Washburn created a signature guitar for Donigan, dubbed the "Maya" in honor of his daughter.
Signature Gear and Effects
Donigan uses GHS strings and has collaborated with DigiTech to develop "The Weapon," a custom effects pedal that recreates seven of his signature guitar tones from Disturbed's songs, including "Mistress" and "Stupify." The pedal features multiple distortion effects, reverb, autowah, pitch shifter, phaser (as heard in the intro of "Voices"), and a sitar simulation. Donigan also utilizes DigiTech's Whammy Pedal and has been spotted using their Metal Master distortion pedal.
Other Equipment
According to an interview in 2000, Donigan's pedalboard also includes the BOSS PH-2 Super Phaser, Dunlop Crybaby Wah, and Ernie Ball Volume pedal. He also uses the BBE Sonic Maximize for sonic enhancement.
