Daniel Agger, a Danish footballer, is a central defender for the English club Liverpool and the captain of the Danish national football team. Early Career
Agger joined Brøndby's first team in July 2004 after Swedish defender Andreas Jakobsson left the club. He quickly became a regular defender for Brøndby and one of the key players who contributed to the team's victory in the national championship in the 2004-2005 season. Despite his young age, Agger played with great skill under the leadership of the team's captain, Per Nielsen. By the end of the season, he was named the "talent of the year" by the Danish Football Association.
International Career
After winning the Superliga championship, Agger was called up to the Danish national football team. He made his debut on June 2, 2005, in a friendly match against Finland, which Denmark won 1-0. Agger played the full match. He went on to play in two more matches, including a 4-1 victory over England on August 17, 2005, where he caused problems for the English forwards. However, a season-long injury forced Agger to withdraw from the national team until the end of 2005.
Liverpool Career
Agger had been waiting for an opportunity to join a big football club, and in January 2006, he received an offer from Liverpool, who had won the UEFA Champions League in 2004-2005. He signed a four-and-a-half-year contract worth £6 million on January 12, 2006, making him the most expensive Danish player sold to a foreign club. In his first season with Liverpool, Agger's playing time was limited due to injury, but he established himself as a key central defender for the team.
Achievements and Setbacks
Agger scored his first goal for Liverpool on August 26, 2006, in a 2-1 victory over West Ham United. He went on to score two more goals, one in the Football League Cup against Birmingham City and another in a 4-1 win against Arsenal on March 31, 2007. Despite his early success, the following season was plagued by a foot injury that required surgery. However, Agger returned to full training and playing in the 2008-2009 season.
