Biography of Daniel Edelman
Daniel Edelman, an American PR specialist and the founder of one of the largest PR companies in the world, 'Edelman', played a significant role in the development of PR technologies and methodologies.

Early Life and Education
Daniel Edelman was born in Manhattan and attended school in the Bronx. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a concert pianist. He received his education at Columbia University, graduating in 1940. He continued his studies and obtained a master's degree in journalism.
Early Career
Edelman began his career in sports journalism in Poughkeepsie, New York. During World War II, he served in the psychological warfare department for a period of time before joining CBS as a reporter. He later ventured into promoting jazz musicians and worked with artists such as Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan, and Artie Shaw.
Establishing 'Edelman'
In 1947, Edelman moved to Chicago and became the director of the PR department for 'Toni Home Permanent', a company that produced hair care products and is now a subsidiary of 'Gillette'. The company's most famous advertising campaign featured twin women, one with a hairstyle done at an expensive salon and the other with a Toni Home Permanent. The advertising slogan challenged readers to guess which woman styled her hair herself. Edelman creatively expanded on this idea by launching a tour with six pairs of twins in 72 cities.
'Edelman' PR Group
In 1952, while still in Chicago, Edelman founded his own PR group, named after himself. Today, 'Edelman' has grown into an international corporation with 63 offices in 26 countries, employing over 4,600 people and generating approximately $600 million in revenue annually. It is now recognized as the largest player in the PR market.
Notable Clients and Contributions
Over the years, Edelman has worked with several leading brands including KFC, Microsoft, General Electric, Sara Lee, Samsung, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, and Kraft. He organized advertising and PR campaigns with great success. For instance, his efforts with Sara Lee led to the brand being featured in articles in 'Businessweek' and 'Life' magazines. Edelman also hired Vincent Price to promote Californian winemakers.
Legacy
Daniel Edelman is renowned not only for his distinguished clients but also for being considered one of the pioneers in the PR industry as a whole. Many modern PR specialists credit him with elevating the profession from mere employees to respected professionals. His contributions led even the most esteemed entrepreneurs and high-ranking politicians to seek the services of PR professionals.
Later Years and Death
In 1996, Daniel's son, Richard Edelman, assumed the position of president and CEO of the 'Edelman' group. Daniel Edelman passed away on January 15, 2013, in Chicago, at the age of 92, due to congestive heart failure.
