Biography of David Salame
Birth and EducationDavid Salame, an Israeli military officer, was born on March 4, 1969, in Atlit, Israel. He attended Reali School and served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from 1987 onward.
Career in the Israeli Navy
Salame joined the Israeli Navy upon entering the IDF and became an officer in Shayetet 13, the Israeli Navy's special forces unit. He served as a platoon commander in southern Lebanon and the West Bank. Subsequently, he completed officer training at the Israeli Naval Academy and graduated from the Israel Naval Command School and the U.S. Naval War College.
Command Roles
Salame held several command positions throughout his career. He served as a commanding officer of a missile boat's navigation, communication, and detection department. From 2000 to 2002, he commanded the missile boat "Yaffo." Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2002, Salame became commander of the 916th Squadron and later of the 31st Missile Boat Squadron.
Naval Base Commands
Salame commanded several naval bases, including the Eilat Naval Base from 2011 to 2014 and the Ashdod Naval Base from 2011 to 2013.
Fleet Command
As commander of the 3rd Missile Boat Flotilla from 2011 to 2013, Salame participated in Operation Pillar of Defense.
Further Education and Senior Command
Salame attended the National Security College and was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 2014. He commanded the Haifa Naval Base from 2014 to 2017 and was appointed deputy commander of the Depth Corps in 2017.
Chief of Navy
In March 2019, Salame was appointed chief of staff of the Israeli Navy. On February 11, 2021, he was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral and became the commander of the Israeli Navy.
