Early Life and Education

David Vitter was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a law degree from Tulane University. Later, he received a scholarship to attend University College, Oxford.

Political Career

Louisiana State Legislature (1992-1999)

David Vitter served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 1999.

U.S. House of Representatives (1999-2005)

In 1999, Vitter was elected as the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 1st Congressional District. He filled the seat vacated by Republican Congressman Bob Livingston, who resigned due to an extramarital affair.

U.S. Senate (2005-Present)

In 2004, Vitter won the U.S. Senate election, becoming the first Republican from Louisiana to hold the office.

Controversy and Personal Life

In 2002, Vitter admitted to having a relationship with a prostitute, which damaged his reputation and nearly ended his marriage. Despite the scandal, Vitter has remained popular among his constituents.

Family

David Vitter is married to Wendy Vitter. They have three daughters (Sophie, Lise, and Airey) and one son (Jack). Vitter's brother, Jeffrey Vitter, is a computer scientist.
