Early Life and Conversion
Hudson was born in Denver, Colorado. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he converted to Catholicism in 1984. He recounts his conversion in his memoir, "Taking America Back."
Academic Career
In 1980, Hudson became a philosophy instructor at Mercer University. After receiving his doctorate in philosophy from Emory University, he became a professor at Fordham University in 1989.
Sexual Harassment Controversy
In 1994, Kara Poppas accused Hudson of initiating sexual contact with her when she was an 18-year-old freshman at Fordham. Hudson admitted guilt and resigned from his tenured position at Fordham. In 1996, he paid Poppas a $30,000 settlement to end a lawsuit.
Media and Political Involvement
In 1995, Hudson became publisher of the conservative Roman Catholic magazine Crisis. He also served as director of Catholic outreach during President George W. Bush's presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004. Hudson has written, edited, or contributed to several books. Hudson has written for publications such as the Los Angeles Times, Slate, The Wall Street Journal, and The Spectator.
Catholic Advocacy and Outreach
Hudson is the founder and former president of Catholic Advocates. In September 2020, he was appointed senior fellow at the Albert the Great Institute in Sacramento, California. He hosts the "Church and Culture" radio show on Ave Maria Radio and is publisher and editor of The Christian Review.
Electoral Influence
Hudson is credited with organizing the Catholic voter outreach effort for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
