Deanna Nolan: A Star-Crossed Victory and an Olympic Dream
A Shining Performance in a Hard-Fought TriumphIn a thrilling matchup between European basketball powerhouses Galatasaray and UGMK, American guard Deanna Nolan emerged as the heroine for the victorious Ural team. Nolan's electrifying 20-point performance, including a pivotal 9-point display in the final quarter, sealed the 71-70 triumph.
Keys to Victory and Room for Improvement
"We simply wanted it more," Nolan asserted. "The battle in the paint and for loose balls proved crucial. Galatasaray's height posed a significant challenge in the first half, but after the break, we concentrated on limiting their offense to one shot. This allowed us to transition into faster attacks and find open looks from both beyond the arc and close to the rim."
Despite admitting to a nagging injury sustained in the morning's practice, Nolan's shooting accuracy remained impressive, with 9 successful attempts out of 12. However, she acknowledged areas of improvement for her team. "Sometimes, we lack patience in our offense. Fastbreaks are a strength, but rushing shots can be detrimental. Greater patience and precision in the half-court will enhance our game even further."
European League Aspirations and Olympic Dreams
"Our chances of winning the EuroLeague are excellent," Nolan stated confidently. "However, we must focus on the process, taking one game at a time. The ultimate goal should not be a distraction, but rather a motivator to strive for our best in each match."
Nolan also expressed her willingness to contribute to the Russian national team, following Becky Hammon's retirement after the London Olympics. "I would welcome such an opportunity," she declared. "Representing my adopted country and competing for Olympic glory is an aspiration that every athlete shares. If called upon, I would eagerly answer the call."
