Biography of Delia Rigal
Delia Rigal is an Argentinean opera singer and soprano. She is best known for her active career at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires from 1943 to 1955. However, her performances extend beyond the Teatro Colón, as she has also worked at La Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Early Career
Delia Rigal made her debut on the stage of Teatro Colón in 1941, in a small role in "Lohengrin". In the following year, she tried her hand at "La Traviata" and "Simon Boccanegra". Her performance as Augusta in Ettore Panizza's "Bizancio" in 1944 marked a significant milestone in her career.
Notable Roles
Rigal is most renowned for her portrayal of Violetta in "La Traviata", Desdemona in "Otello", and Elisabetta in "Don Carlo". In her seven-year tenure at the Metropolitan Opera, which began in 1950, she also performed as Nedda in "Pagliacci", Tosca, Aida, Donna Elvira in "Don Giovanni", Countess Almaviva in "The Marriage of Figaro", Violetta, and Leonora in "Il trovatore". Throughout her career, Rigal appeared on stage over 100 times.
Life Beyond the Stage
Currently, Delia Rigal resides in Long Island, USA, where she has found a new home. Despite her distance from Buenos Aires, she occasionally visits her family and loved ones. She has chosen not to return to Buenos Aires in the foreseeable future, even missing the 100th anniversary celebration of Teatro Colón. Rigal has embraced America as her new home, where she has found love and started a family.
