Derek Chisora is a British professional heavyweight boxer of Zimbabwean descent. He is the current British heavyweight champion and trains in Finchley, London.
Amateur Career
Chisora had a successful amateur career, winning the gold medal at the Four Nations tournament and becoming the champion of the Amateur Boxing Association of England.
Professional Career
Chisora made his professional debut on February 17, 2007, defeating István Kecskés by technical knockout in the second round. After three more victories, Chisora faced another rising star of British boxing, Sam Sexton. Chisora managed to defeat his opponent in the final 30 seconds of the last round.
Chisora continued his winning streak with victories over Shawn Mclean and Lee Swaby. He ended the year with a victory over Neil Simpson at the 'ExCeL' exhibition center in London, finishing his second professional year undefeated with eight wins.
On May 22, Chisora faced Paul Butlin and became so enraged during the fight that he even bit his opponent. As a result, he was suspended for four months and fined £2500. This suspension cost Chisora the opportunity to fight Danny Williams for the British championship.
On October 9, Chisora secured another victory against Zurab Noniashvili. On January 20, 2010, it was announced that he would finally get the chance to fight Williams, as Sexton had to withdraw due to injury.
On May 15, 2010, Chisora faced Williams for the British heavyweight title and defeated him in the second round. He later faced Sexton again, knocking him out in the ninth round.
On December 11, 2010, Chisora was scheduled to fight the legendary Russian boxer Vladimir Klitschko. Unfortunately, Klitschko suffered an abdominal muscle injury three days before the fight, and it was rescheduled for April 30, 2011.
In November 2010, Chisora was convicted of assaulting his girlfriend after finding messages from another man on her phone. He was sentenced to 12 weeks' imprisonment, suspended for two years, fined a total of £2000, and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.
