Early Life and Military Training
Dimitar Geshov was born in Svishtov, Bulgaria, in 1860. As a young man, he volunteered in the 55th Infantry Regiment of the Russian Army and fought in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. Subsequently, he received military education at the Odessa Cadet School in Russia.
Military Career
Upon his return to Bulgaria, Geshov joined the Bulgarian Army. During the Serbo-Bulgarian War, he commanded a company and distinguished himself in the battles for Pirot and Breznik. In 1902, he became the commander of an infantry regiment, and in 1903, he led an infantry brigade.
In the First Balkan War, Geshov commanded a brigade and excelled in battles against the Turks. As a result, he was promoted to the command of the 2nd Infantry Division and participated in the fighting near Smolyan. He also fought in the Battle of Krivolak during the Second Balkan War.
World War I
When Bulgaria entered World War I, Geshov successfully led a division in the battles of Krivolak, Doiran, and on the Salonika Front. In December 1916, he was appointed commander of the 1st Bulgarian Army, overseeing units in the Vardar River and Lake Doiran areas.
Due to illness, Geshov was relieved from his command in early 1918 and assigned to rear-line duties. After the war ended, he served as inspector of border troops and retired in 1919.
Later Life
Dimitar Geshov spent his retirement years in Sofia, where he passed away in 1922. Today, his legacy is remembered through the significant military contributions he made during his lifetime.
