Early Life and Education
Dimitar Kovacevski was born in 1974 in Kumanovo, North Macedonia. His father, Slobodan Kovacevski, was the Mayor of Kumanovo from 2000 to 2005 and the first Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Montenegro from 2006 to 2010.
Kovacevski began his secondary education at the "Goce Delcev" school in Kumanovo. He later attended the "Elysian Morristown" school in Waterille, Minnesota, USA.
In 1998, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. He earned a Master's degree from the same faculty in 2003 and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Montenegro in 2008.
Kovacevski received professional training from the College of Europe in Bruges in 2005 and the Harvard Business School in 2011. He also graduated from the European Entrepreneurship Colloquium at the Technical University of Munich in 2015 and received professional training from the Rotterdam School of Management at the Erasmus University in 2017.
Academic Career
From 2009 to 2012, Kovacevski taught at the New York University in Skopje. From 2012 to 2015, he taught at the School of Journalism and Public Relations in Skopje.
Since 2012, Kovacevski has been an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Management at the American University College Skopje. He served as the Head of the Marketing Department at the New York University Skopje and taught courses in marketing, sales management, and strategic brand management at the graduate and postgraduate levels.
Kovacevski has been involved in several international and domestic projects, including the International Project Micro Masters and Virtual Mobility International Project, the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Competitiveness Improvement Project in North Macedonia, and the Development of Online Courses (MicroMasters) and Virtual Mobility project.
Professional Career
Kovacevski began his professional career in 1998 at the Macedonian telecommunications company Makedonski Telekom as a Financial Partner and Coordinator for Regulation and Harmonization of Financial Control. He held various management positions from 2005 to 2017, including Director of Marketing and Sales Management, Director of Marketing Communication, Director of Communications, and Director of Residential Sales.
From 2008 to 2016, Kovacevski was a member of Deutsche Telekom's International Brands Committee and the International Communications Committee. From 2017 to 2018, he was the Executive Director of A1 Macedonia (then known as one.VIP), a subsidiary of A1 Telekom Austria Group.
Kovacevski co-founded the high-tech companies PiKCELL and Solar-ET, which produce North Macedonia's first photovoltaic solar and thermal modules. He participated in the production and development of components for the production of electricity from renewable sources from 2018 to 2020.
Political Career
Kovacevski has been a member of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) since 1994. After the 2020 parliamentary elections in North Macedonia, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance in the second government of Zoran Zaev.
In May 2021, Kovacevski became a member of the SDSM Executive Council. When Zaev resigned as Prime Minister and leader of the SDSM following his defeat in the 2021 local elections, Kovacevski was elected as the new leader of the party.
On December 29, 2021, President Stevo Pendarovski tasked Kovacevski with forming a new government. The government included members of the SDSM, the Democratic Union for Integration, the Liberal Democratic Party, and Alternativa.
Prime Minister of North Macedonia
On January 16, 2022, Dimitar Kovacevski was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia. He presented his cabinet's program and outlined measures to support citizens, businesses, and the economy.
Kovacevski's government supports Euro-Atlantic integration and North Macedonia's membership in the EU. It also continues to pursue a policy of good neighborly relations.
