Early Career
Born in Senegal, Henri Camara began his football career playing for the French amateur club Red Star. In 1999, he signed with Italian Serie C2 club Catanzaro, where he spent two seasons.
Move to Modena and Success in Italy
In 2001, Camara joined Modena, a club that had recently been promoted to Serie B. He became a regular starter, helping the team earn promotion to Serie A in the 2001-2002 season. During the subsequent years with Modena, Camara solidified his place in the starting lineup.
Loan to Portsmouth and Debut in the English Premier League
Following Modena's relegation to Serie B in 2003-2004, Camara was loaned to English Premier League club Portsmouth. However, his time there was disrupted by a knee injury that kept him sidelined for three months. In total, he made 29 appearances and scored 4 goals for Portsmouth.
West Bromwich Albion and Championship Success
In July 2005, Camara joined West Bromwich Albion for £1.5 million. While his first season at the club was disappointing, he rebounded in the 2006-2007 season, scoring 21 goals and finishing as the third-highest scorer in the Championship. His outstanding performances earned him the Championship Player of the Month award for October 2006.
Transfer to Fulham and Controversial Transfer
In July 2007, Camara was sold to Premier League club Fulham for £6 million. However, his time at Fulham was less successful, and he failed to make a significant impact, scoring only 5 goals in 28 appearances. The Sun newspaper ranked his transfer as one of the worst in the English Premier League in the 2007/08 season.
International Career
Camara has represented Senegal at the international level since 2003. He played in the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, helping Senegal finish as runners-up in 2006.
