Early Life and Education
Dito Tsintsadze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1957. In 1981, he graduated from the Tbilisi State Theater Institute with a degree in film directing.
Early Career
Tsintsadze began his career at the "Gruzfilm" film studio, where he worked for the first nine years. From 1990 to 1994, he joined the Georgian film company "Shvidkatsa." During this period, he directed several films, including "Guests."
International Recognition
In 1991, Tsintsadze's film "Guests" won the "Golden Eagle" for Best Original Directing at the Tbilisi International Film Festival. Two years later, he received another "Golden Eagle" for Best Director for his film "On the Edge." The same film was also awarded the "Silver Leopard" at the Locarno International Film Festival.
In 2003, Tsintsadze's German film "When It's Scary to Shoot" won the prestigious "Golden Seashell" at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
Career Highlights
Throughout his career, Tsintsadze has been recognized for his unique directorial style. His films have premiered at major film festivals worldwide, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Moscow International Film Festival, and the Tbilisi Film Festival.
He has received numerous awards, including the "Silver Prometheus" at the Tbilisi Film Festival for his film "Lost Murderers."
Personal Life
Tsintsadze currently resides in Berlin with his wife Marika and son Nikoloz. Their daughter Nutsa is a student at Tbilisi University. Despite living abroad, he remains a Georgian citizen and frequently visits his homeland.
Legacy and Inspiration
Tsintsadze credits his former teacher, renowned filmmaker Eldar Shengelaya, as his primary inspiration. He plans to direct a film about Shengelaya's work in the film industry.
