Biography of Dmitry Mikhailenko
Dmitry Mikhailenko is a Ukrainian footballer, midfielder, and currently a coach. He is also the younger brother of footballer Alexander Mikhailenko.
Club Career
Mikhailenko began his career at the age of 17 with "Zvezda". In 1990, he joined "Dnipro". In 1994, he transferred to "Dynamo Kyiv" and also played for its farm clubs - "Dynamo-2" and "Dynamo-3". After leaving "Dynamo", he played for Israeli clubs "Hapoel" (Tel Aviv) and "Beitar" (Jerusalem) from 2001 to 2002. He then returned to Ukraine and played for his hometown club "Dnipro" and "Metalurh" Zaporizhia from 2002 to 2007. In 2007, he played for the Cypriot club APOP for two years before retiring as a player.
International Career
Mikhailenko won a bronze medal in the World Youth Championship in 1991. He played 23 matches for the Ukrainian national team and scored 2 goals. He made his debut on April 27, 1993, in a friendly match against the Israeli national team (1:1).
Coaching Career
In 2009, Mikhailenko began his coaching career, starting with the youth team of "Dnipro". He won bronze medals in the Ukrainian Youth Championship in the 2010/11, 2013/14, and 2015/16 seasons, and became the champion in the 2014/15 season. In the summer of 2016, he took over as the interim head coach of "Dnipro" after Miron Markevich resigned. Under his leadership, "Dnipro" finished 11th out of 12 teams in the Ukrainian championship and reached the semi-finals of the Ukrainian Cup, where they lost to "Shakhtar" Donetsk 0:1.
In the summer of 2017, he became the head coach of "Dnipro-1". However, after a disappointing start to the season (a draw and two losses), he resigned from his position in September 2020. From 2020 to 2021, Mikhailenko served as the head coach of the Cypriot club "Paphos".
