At the age of thirteen, Rice first ventured into the modeling business while simultaneously attending school, regularly attending church, and working part-time at a clothing store.

In 1980, Donna Rice graduated from the University of North Carolina with honors and a degree. Shortly after their meeting, a passionate romance ensued, and Gary Hart eventually ran for the presidency of the United States. Unfortunately, rumors of his infidelity quickly spread throughout the country, dealing a significant blow to his reputation as a presidential candidate. The photographs of Hart and Rice sitting together aboard a yacht played a crucial role in the scandal. Following the publication of these photos, Gary Hart withdrew from the race and later regretted his own carelessness. The scandal caused a major uproar, and as a result, Donna Rice lost her job in the pharmaceutical company but gained immense popularity.
