Biography of Dorothy Stratten
Dorothy Stratten, born as Dorothy Ruth Hoogstraten, was a Canadian model and talented actress. She was a Playboy Playmate in August 1979 and 1980, becoming the second model born in the 1960s to be chosen as a Playmate after Lee Ann Michelle. However, her career and life were cut short in August 1980 when Stratten was murdered by her estranged husband, a pathological jealous man.
Early Life
Dorothy Stratten was born on February 28, 1960, in British Columbia, Canada, to parents Simon and Nelly. Her parents had been married for six years before she was born, and she was the long-awaited daughter. She had a younger brother, John, born in 1961, and a sister, Louise, born in 1968. Stratten attended Centennial High School during her teenage years.
Career and Playboy
Stratten's life took a different turn when she met the well-known promoter and pimp, Paul Snider, when she was seventeen. Snider was captivated by Stratten's photos and sent them to Playboy. In 1979, Dorothy changed her last name to Stratten and appeared in Playboy as the Playmate of the Month. She soon found work at the Los Angeles Playboy Club, one of the prestigious clubs in the city. In the same year, she married Paul Snider in a lavish Las Vegas wedding.
Troubled Marriage and Tragic End
After some time, it became clear to Stratten that her marriage was not a happy one. Her new husband was exceptionally jealous and often lost control of his emotions, behaving erratically. Furthermore, Snider tried to claim credit for his wife's success and spread false information that Dorothy was merely a nobody. In 1980, Stratten continued her work, collaborating with photographer Mario Casilli, who created an exceptional image of her as the Playboy Playmate of the Year. It seemed that her successful career was reaching its peak.
Unfortunately, Dorothy's husband continued to terrorize her. His behavior became increasingly aggressive and caused growing concern. His jealousy escalated into an obsessive and compulsive idea. Stratten decided to divorce Paul and end their marriage. However, she didn't have the chance to do so. On August 14, 1980, Dorothy met with her husband to discuss the details of their divorce. The meeting ended tragically when Paul shot Dorothy and then took his own life.
