Canadian Hockey Player

John Jarvis is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played for the Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals, and Hartford Whalers during his career.

Early Career

Jarvis was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round (24th overall) of the 1974 NHL Entry Draft. However, he did not play a game for the Leafs and was traded to the Canadiens for Greg Hubick.

Success in Montreal

Jarvis' career took off after joining the Canadiens. He formed a notable line with Bob Gainey and helped the team win four Stanley Cups (1976, 1977, 1978, 1979).

Defensive Prowess

In 1981, Jarvis was traded to the Washington Capitals. There, he showcased his defensive skills, winning the Selke Trophy in 1984 as the league's best defensive forward.

Record-Breaking Streak

Jarvis signed with the Hartford Whalers in 1985. On October 11, 1987, his streak of 964 consecutive regular-season NHL games was broken. He had surpassed the previous record of 914 games set by Gary Unger. For this remarkable achievement, Jarvis received the Bill Masterton Trophy in 1987.

Coaching Career

After retiring from playing, Jarvis transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars, winning the Stanley Cup in 1999 and 2011. He also assisted the Boston Bruins in their Stanley Cup victories.
