Biography of Steven Dixon
Steven Dixon is a retired Canadian forward and former professional ice hockey center, who last played for the Glasgow Clan in the EIHL. He was born in Halifax and was selected in the first round by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL) in the 2001 Midget Draft. Dixon spent his entire youth career with Cape Breton, despite being traded to the Val-d'Or Foreurs before the start of the 2005 season.
Dixon was chosen in the seventh round of the 2003 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, with the overall 229th pick. He played all 80 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. On June 23, 2007, Dixon was traded by the Penguins to the Anaheim Ducks for Tim Brent. He was then assigned to the Portland Pirates.
Dixon played for the KHL team Amur Khabarovsk during the 2010-2011 season. On August 29, 2011, he moved to Europe for the second consecutive season, signing a one-year contract with the Finnish club Ässät in the SM-liiga. In the 2012-2013 season, Dixon transferred from Ässät to return to the KHL with the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv on January 31, 2013.
Dixon was a member of the Canadian national team that won gold medals at the 2005 IIHF World U20 Championship. Since then, he has played for HC Yugra (KHL), Luleå (SHL), Tappara (Liiga), Grizzlys Wolfsburg (DEL), and Cardiff Devils (EIHL).
In June 2022, Dixon left Cardiff and joined the Glasgow Clan in the Elite Ice Hockey League. He was appointed as an assistant coach before assuming the role of interim head coach after the departure of Clan head coach Malcolm Cameron in October 2022. Dixon retired from hockey in July 2023.
