Early Career

Douglas Costa signed his first professional contract with Gremio in 2008, spanning five years. In his debut match, he scored the winning goal against Botafogo.

Move to Shakhtar Donetsk

In January 2010, Costa transferred to Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of €6 million. He quickly established himself as a set-piece specialist.

Success with Shakhtar

In 2011, Costa and Shakhtar reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, narrowly losing to Barcelona. They also won the Ukrainian Premier League. Costa contributed seven goals in 42 appearances that season.

International Appearances

Costa represented Brazil at the 2009 South American Youth Championship, where he scored three goals. He then competed in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where Brazil finished as runners-up. In 2010, he was called up to the senior national team and made his debut in a friendly against Turkey in 2014.
