Biography of Edgar Hess
Edgar Hess is a former Soviet and German football player, forward, midfielder, and football coach. He was born on May 17, 1955, in Dushanbe, Tajik SSR, Soviet Union.
Early Career
Hess began his football career in the First League playing for Dushanbe's "Pamir." He later moved to Moscow and joined the famous "Spartak" team. During his time with Spartak, Hess scored 26 goals, including the 2000th goal for Spartak on May 14, 1981.
Success and International Recognition
Hess was an integral part of the Spartak team that became the champions of the USSR in 1979. He also reached the finals of the USSR Cup and achieved silver and bronze medals in the Soviet Championships. Throughout his career, Hess represented the Soviet Union national team.
Moves and Coaching Career
In late 1983, Hess decided to leave Spartak due to recurring Achilles tendon injuries caused by playing on artificial turf. He joined the Tashkent-based club "Pakhtakor." After retiring as a player, Hess pursued a career in coaching. He became the head coach of "Zarafshan" in Navoi, Uzbekistan.
In 1989, Hess moved to his ancestral homeland, West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany). He played for the "Biberach" football club from 1989 to 1991. From June 1991 to June 1995, and again from July 1997 to January 1999, he served as the head coach of "Mittelbiberach." During his coaching tenure, he also played as part of the team.
