Anatoliy Lazarenko: A Pioneer in Printing and Packaging Technology
Early Life and EducationAnatoliy Lazarenko, a distinguished Soviet and Ukrainian scientist and educator, was born on July 27, 1935, in Sumy, Ukraine. During World War II, his family evacuated to the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, returning to Lviv in 1945. In 1953, Lazarenko entered the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute named after Ivan Fedorov (UPI), graduating with honors in 1958.
Academic and Professional Career
Lazarenko began his career as an assistant at UPI in 1959 but briefly worked in Dnepropetrovsk before returning. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he held various roles at UPI, including Head of the Laboratory of Printing Production Technology and Senior Lecturer. In 1970, he earned his Candidate of Technical Sciences degree from the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, and in 1973, became an Associate Professor at UPI.
Research and Innovation
Lazarenko's research interests centered around intensifying printing processes and modeling and optimizing technological processes. His doctoral dissertation, defended in 1991 at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, delved into the creation of photopolymer printing plates from oligooxyacrylates.
Leadership and Recognition
From 1990 to 2001, Lazarenko headed the Department of Technology of Printing and Finishing Processes and Polygraphic Materials at UPI. In 2001, the department was renamed the Department of Technology of Printed Publications and Packaging, with Lazarenko remaining a professor. For his contributions to the field, he was designated a Merited Science and Technology Worker of Ukraine.
Authorship and Publications
Lazarenko was a prolific author and co-author, publishing over 600 scientific and educational-methodological works. His books, including "Photopolymer Printing Plates" (1978) and "Photochemical Forming of Printing Plates" (1984), became widely recognized. He also held numerous patents for inventions in the USSR, Ukraine, the US, Germany, France, and Japan.
Mentorship and Legacy
Lazarenko supervised the doctoral and candidate dissertations of numerous students, many of whom went on to become leaders in their own right. Through his guidance and mentorship, he left an enduring mark on the world of printing and packaging technology.
