Eufemia Petrovna Krivosheeva, a renowned folk storyteller, was born on June 1, 1867, in Tarasovka village, now a part of Kamensky district in the Penza region. She hailed from a large peasant family of Erzya nationality.
Discovery of Her Talent
Eufemia's son, Ilya Krivosheev, recognized his mother's exceptional talent for storytelling. From 1922 onward, he diligently recorded her performances, capturing her vivid and soulful narrations.
Rise to Prominence
Krivosheeva's fame reached new heights in 1936 with the publication of her masterpiece, "Layshema Kirovdo" ("Lament for Kirov"), in the newspaper "Pravda." This powerful elegy for the assassinated Soviet leader captivated the nation.
Literary Legacy
Krivosheeva's repertoire included over 50 diverse works, ranging from lamentations to songs. Her first collection, "Layshemat dy Morot" ("Lamentations and Songs"), was published in 1937.
Passing and Legacy
