Elena Nathanael, a Greek actress, was born on January 31, 1947, in the suburbs of Athens, Greece, to a wealthy family. Her father, a descendant of Greeks and Anatolian residents from Ayvalik, was a textile designer and industrialist, while her mother's lineage traced back to the Maniots. Nathanael studied drama at the Pelos Katselis Theatre School. Initially, she used both her father's surname, Delivassili, and her mother's surname, Nathanael, in her name, but later she was predominantly known as Elena Nathanael in the film industry.

Rise to Fame

Nathanael made a strong impression with her beauty and caught the attention of flourishing producers and directors in the Greek film world during the 1960s. She made her debut in cinema in 1964, in the musical comedy "Kati na kaiei," directed by Giannis Dalianidis. Her second appearance on the big screen was in 1965 when she starred in the German drama "Wälsungenblut" ("The Blood of the Walsungs") alongside Michael Maien, based on the novel by Thomas Mann. In the late 1960s, she starred in several Greek films, often portraying spoiled rich girls.

Award and Career Challenges

Nathanael's talent was recognized when she received the award for "Best Actress" at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 1968 for her role in Vasilis Georgiadis' drama "Randevou me mia agnostic" ("Rendezvous with an Agnostic"). In the early 1970s, she successfully created an on-screen image of a free-spirited young beauty and became a true fashion idol. However, the sharp decline in commercial Greek cinema production during that decade had a detrimental effect on her acting career, as experienced by many Greek film stars of that era.

Comeback and Later Years

After a seven-year hiatus, Nathanael made a comeback, mostly appearing in light comedies. However, she then disappeared from the screens again, occasionally making appearances in special film projects. In 1998, she played Julia in the highly successful soap opera "Aggigma psyhis" ("Drop of Soul"), and her last performance was as Maya Hoover in the popular TV series "Gorgones" ("Gorgons") on Mega Channel in 2007. Her return was warmly received by the audience, reminiscent of the fame she had achieved as a Greek actress.

Personal Life and Legacy

Nathanael was in a relationship with Giorgos Tsangkaris and gave birth to their daughter Inka in 1973. After retiring, she spent several years living on a farm on the island of Evia with Tasos Mitropoulos, a football veteran from Olympiacos club, where she was involved in wine production. She passed away from lung cancer on March 4, 2008. The Greek press referred to her as the "enchantress of Greek cinema."
