Early Life and Education
Ema Horvath, born on January 28, 1994, is an American actress of Slovak descent. Her acting career began at the tender age of five when she featured in a muffin commercial, simply enjoying the treat while facing a moving camera. Horvath later attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan for two years and subsequently studied at Harvard University. During her undergraduate years, she actively participated in theatrical productions, including Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and "Grounded," where she portrayed an elderly woman.
Film and Television Career
Horvath's film debut came in 2017 with "Like. Share. Follow.," where she played Shell, an obsessed fan infatuated with a rising YouTube star. She continued her horror genre exploration in "The Gallows Act II," which received mixed reviews despite Horvath's performance being praised for its resemblance to a young Hilary Swank.
In "205," Horvath tackled a role in a time loop movie, playing a woman reliving the same day repeatedly. The film was originally written with a male protagonist, but director Brock Heasley rewrote the script for Horvath within five days, leading to her casting as Maxine Lareau.
Her horror film repertoire expanded with "Tales from the Grave," where she portrayed Sandra, a young woman from a witching family who inadvertently impregnates a random lover with a monster child. The anthology horror film received positive critical recognition and was lauded by "Evil Dead" director Sam Raimi.
In 2019, Horvath joined the cast of Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings" prequel series. The project, set in Middle-earth's Second Age, featured Horvath alongside Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, and others.
"What Lies Below" saw Horvath take on the role of Liberty Wells, a teenage outcast who returns home from summer camp to find her mother dating a mysterious man named John Smith (Trey Tucker). For this role, Horvath dyed her hair blonde and collaborated closely with her castmates, particularly Tucker. Director Braden R. Duemmler praised Horvath's emotional depth and her ability to embody complex characters with nuance.
Personal Life
Horvath maintains a private personal life, rarely sharing details on social media. She has a circle of friends in the acting community, including Keenan Lonsdale, with whom she worked on "Like. Share. Follow." Standing at 5'8" (174 cm) and weighing 128 lbs (58 kg), Horvath prefers to keep her focus on her professional endeavors.
Current Projects
Horvath's upcoming projects include the continuation of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," with filming commencing in New Zealand in 2021. The series is expected to span five seasons with 8-10 episodes each. In addition, Horvath will star in "Who Are You People," a film scheduled for release in 2021, where she plays a 16-year-old girl searching for her biological father.
