Early Life and Education

Anniken Huitfeldt was born on August 8, 1993, in Lørenskog, Akershus County, Norway. She is the daughter of Eivind Mehl and Ellen Enger Müller. She attended primary school in Os Municipality and went on to study at Os Secondary School from 2006 to 2007 and Åsnes Secondary School from 2007 to 2009. In 2012, she graduated from Solør Upper Secondary School in Åsnes, specializing in language, social studies, and economics.

During her high school years, Huitfeldt also participated in an exchange program in Wyoming, Michigan, USA, in 2010-2011. Additionally, she studied equestrianism at Olborg Sports School in Denmark in 2012. She then went on to pursue a law degree at the University of Oslo from 2014 to 2017.

Political Career

Huitfeldt began her political journey in 2012, where she led the Hedmark County branch of the Centre Party's youth organization. She also served as Secretary of the Akershus County Centre Party from 2013 to 2014 and was a member of the Centre Party's national youth board from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, she became Deputy Chair of the board.

In 2015, Huitfeldt became a member of the Hedmark County Council and served as Deputy Chair of the Council's Finance, Property, and Regional Cooperation Committee. She was also a board member of Fulufjellet National Park.

Parliamentary Career

Huitfeldt was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Hedmark County in the 2017 parliamentary elections. During her time in parliament, she served on the Justice Committee (2017-2020), the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee (2020-2021), and was a member of the Norwegian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the Norwegian delegation to the European Parliament.

In the 2021 parliamentary elections, Huitfeldt was re-elected. However, upon her appointment as Minister of Justice and Emergency Preparedness, she was replaced in parliament by Margrethe Haar.

Ministerial Appointment

On October 14, 2021, Huitfeldt was appointed Minister of Justice and Emergency Preparedness in the Norwegian government led by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
