Early Life and EducationEva Biaudet was born on February 27, 1961, in Helsinki, Finland. As a child, she was raised in a bilingual household, speaking both Swedish and Finnish. Her parents instilled in her a deep appreciation for diversity and human rights, values that would shape her future career.
Political Career
Biaudet's political journey began in 1989 when she was elected to the Helsinki City Council as a member of the Swedish People's Party. Her dedication to public service led to her election to the Finnish Parliament in 1991, where she served until 2006. During her parliamentary tenure, she held key positions, including Minister of Housing from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2002 to 2003.
Anti-Human Trafficking Advocate
In 2006, Biaudet's unwavering commitment to social justice led her to accept the role of OSCE Special Representative for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings. In this capacity, she played a pivotal role in developing and implementing anti-trafficking policies and programs. Her dedication was recognized in 2011 with the prestigious Hero Acting to End Modern Day Slavery award.
Presidential Candidacy and Minority Rights
In 2010, Biaudet was appointed as the Finnish Ombudsman for Minorities. Her work focused on protecting the rights of marginalized groups, ensuring equality and promoting diversity. In 2011, she was nominated as the presidential candidate for the Swedish People's Party.
LGBTQ+ Advocate
Biaudet's advocacy extended beyond minority rights to include the LGBTQ+ community. In 2013, she became the patron of Helsinki Pride, an annual event aimed at raising awareness, promoting civil equality, and supporting the well-being of all individuals regardless of sexual orientation.
