Biography of Evald Aav

Estonian composer and choral conductor Evald Aav was known for his contributions to the Estonian opera and choral music. He is the author of the first significant Estonian opera "Vikings" ("Vikerlased"), which was staged in 1928. Aav also composed a symphony in 1938 and a symphonic poem called "Life" in 1934. He was also known for his numerous songs and choral works.

Aav studied at the Tallinn Conservatory and graduated in 1926 under the guidance of A. I. Kapp. He later went on to lead amateur choirs and became the chief conductor of the choirs for the Song Festival in 1938.

In addition to his musical achievements, Aav had a personal life as well. He was married to the singer Ida Loo-Talvari from 1926 to 1937. They had a son named Juhan Loo.

In the later years of his life, Aav fell ill with a cold, which led to complications and eventually his death. Despite his illness, he continued his work in opera production until his health deteriorated further, leading to his untimely demise.
