Early Life and Education
Evelyn Wever-Croes was born on November 17, 1982, in San Nicolas, Aruba. She is the niece of the renowned politician Betico Croes.
In 1985, Wever-Croes began her studies in law at the University of the Netherlands Antilles (Curacao University). She continued her education in the Netherlands from 1986 to 1989, specializing in tax law at Leiden University.
Career in Taxation
After completing her studies, Wever-Croes worked in the tax authorities for several years. In 1994, she became the head of the tax division.
From 2003 to 2010, she served as a tax consultant at the law firm Croes, Wever & Tchong, where she also practiced law from 2008 onward.
Political Career
In October 2009, Wever-Croes was elected to the Parliament of Aruba. She became the leader of the parliamentary group in 2013.
In 2011, she became the leader of the People's Electoral Movement (MEP), a member of the Socialist International.
Prime Minister of Aruba
On November 17, 2017, following legislative elections held two months prior, Evelyn Wever-Croes became the Prime Minister of Aruba. She leads a government coalition of the MEP, the People's Progressive Party (POR), and the Democratic Electoral Network (RED).
Wever-Croes is the first female Prime Minister of Aruba since the island gained autonomy in 1986.
