Biography of Fernando Gonzalez
Fernando Gonzalez is a Chilean tennis player who began his professional career in 1999. He is one of only two Olympic champions in the history of Chile, the other being Nicolas Massu. Gonzalez was born on July 29, 1980, in Santiago, Chile, and currently resides in La Reina, Chile. He stands at a height of 182 cm and weighs 81 kg.
Achievements
Gonzalez's career highlights include being the Olympic champion in the men's doubles event in 2004, alongside Nicolas Massu. He also won a silver medal in the singles event at the 2008 Olympics and a bronze medal in the singles event at the 2004 Olympics. In addition, he reached the final of the Australian Open in 2007 in the singles event and the semifinals of the Roland Garros in 2005 in the doubles event with Nicolas Massu.
Gonzalez has won 10 ATP tournaments in singles and 3 in doubles. He has won tournaments in various parts of the world, excluding Africa and Antarctica. He has been a three-time champion at the Vina del Mar tournament in Chile (2002, 2004, 2008) and a finalist in two Masters series tournaments in singles.
Gonzalez was also a two-time participant in the Masters Cup (2005 and 2007) and was once the top-ranked junior player in the world. He won the junior US Open in doubles in 1997 with Nicolas Massu and the junior Roland Garros in singles and doubles in 1998 with Jose de Armas.
