Childhood and Youth
Valérie Pécresse was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, and raised in Ermont from the age of three. She received a Master's degree in public law from Panthéon-Assas University. At the age of 18, she became the head of the youth organization of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) in the Val-d'Oise department.
Early Political Career
Pécresse began her political career in 2002 as a parliamentary assistant to Henri Cuq in the National Assembly. From 2004 to 2015, she held the same position for her father, Hugues Portelli, and Lucienne Malovry in the Senate.
Mayor of Taverny
In 2014, Pécresse was elected Mayor of Taverny, breaking 25 years of left-wing dominance in the town. The victory marked a significant turning point in her political career.
National Political Rise
Pécresse's national political star continued to rise in 2015 when she was elected to the Regional Council of Île-de-France. She quickly became vice-chair of the Republican group and became increasingly involved in national politics.
