Early Life and Career

In her teenage years, Franziska Preuß excelled in track and field. At the age of 15, she received an invitation to a training camp led by Fritz Fischer as part of an exchange program. This sparked her interest in biathlon, and she began training in the sport.

Youthful Success

At the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Preuß made an impressive debut, claiming three gold medals in the sprint, mixed relay, and cross-country/biathlon relay. She also earned a silver medal in the pursuit.

International Breakthrough

Preuß made her World Cup debut in the 2013/14 season, finishing 44th in her first race in Östersund, Sweden. As part of the German team, she won the relay in Annecy. These strong performances earned her a spot on the German team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Olympic Participation

At the Sochi Olympics, Preuß finished 40th in the pursuit and was part of the German relay team that placed 11th. Despite a fall and broken pole during her first leg, she showed great determination and fought back admirably.

The 2014/15 World Cup season proved fruitful for Preuß. She earned her first podium finish in a mass start event in Ruhpolding, finishing second behind Darya Domracheva. At the World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland, she played a vital role in Germany's victory in the women's relay. In the mass start race, she captured a silver medal after finishing behind Valja Semerenko of Ukraine. Her consistent performances in mass start events culminated in her winning the Small Crystal Globe in that discipline at the end of the season.
