Frude Johnsen: A Legendary Norwegian Striker
Humble BeginningsFrude Johnsen, born in Skotfoss, Norway, started his football journey with his hometown club in the Third Division. In 1993, he joined Odd Grenland, embarking on a seven-year journey from the Second Division to the top flight.
The Rise to Stardom
In the mid-2000 season, Johnsen joined Rosenborg, the dominant force in Norwegian football. He played a crucial role in their reign, helping the club win consecutive titles until 2005. Johnsen also twice took home the Norwegian Premier League Golden Boot award, in 2001 and 2004.
International Adventures
In 2006, Johnsen sought a new challenge in Japan, joining Nagoya Grampus Eight. Despite not winning any major trophies, he scored 42 goals in his three seasons there. From 2009 to 2010, he played for Shimizu S-Pulse, reaching the Emperor's Cup final but falling short in other competitions.
Return to Odd Grenland
In January 2011, Johnsen returned to his roots at Odd Grenland. In 2013, he became the league's top scorer for the third time, showcasing his enduring talent.
International Recognition
Johnsen represented Norway 33 times, scoring 10 goals. After a brief hiatus, he was recalled in 2013 and played his final match at the age of 39, becoming the oldest player ever to play for the Norwegian national team.
Legacy and Farewell
On November 8, 2015, Odd Grenland bid farewell to Johnsen in a special ceremony. The club awarded him the prestigious Kniksen Award for his contributions to Norwegian football. His final match was against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League qualifying round, where he scored a goal before being substituted.
