Early Life and Musical Education
Frode Thingnæs Ree Wekre was born into a musical family in Oslo, Norway. She initially studied violin and piano but later embarked on the French horn at the age of 17. She received guidance from renowned hornists Vitaly Buyanowsky in Leningrad and Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto in Stockholm.
Orchestral Career
In 1961, Wekre joined the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra as a horn soloist. She remained in the orchestra for three decades, retiring in 1991.
Teaching and Chamber Music
After leaving the orchestra, Wekre dedicated herself to teaching. She currently holds positions at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where she teaches horn and wind chamber ensemble.
International Horn Society
Wekre is an active member of the International Horn Society (IHS), having aided in the membership of Vitaly Buyanowsky and Peter Damm in 1973. She was elected an Honorary Member of the IHS in 1994 and served as its President from 1998 to 2000.
