Karl von Küenburg

Karl von Küenburg was an Austrian politician who served as a prosecutor, judge, and member of the Upper Austrian Landtag (1874) and the Reichsrat (1888), where he aligned with the right wing of the United German Left Party. He is renowned for his famous quote, "Our party will not allow the tiara to overshadow the crown."

Political Career

In December 1891, Küenburg became a Minister without Portfolio in the Taffe government as a representative of his party. He resigned in December 1892 after the government took a strong stance against the Left Party. When Plener joined the Windischgrätz cabinet, Küenburg became the leader of the German Left Party.

Later Life

In 1897, Küenburg declined to seek re-election due to his dissatisfaction with the party's increasingly oppositional stance toward the government. He was subsequently appointed to the House of Lords.
