Early Life and Education

Gabiden Karimovich Kaliev was born on July 19, 1938, in the Belbasar village, Chuysky district, Kazakhstan, to a family of teachers. In 1962, he graduated from Kyrgyz State University with a degree in agricultural economics. From 1965 to 1967, he pursued postgraduate studies at Moscow State University, earning a doctorate in 1981 with a dissertation on the concentration of production in sheep-breeding sovkhozes.

Academic and Scientific Career

Kaliev began his career as a senior economist in 1962. In 1964, he became a lecturer at the Almaty Institute of National Economy. In 1968, he joined the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Economy and Organization of Agriculture (now the Research Institute of Agricultural Development and Rural Territories). His primary research focused on increasing the efficiency of sheep breeding.

In 1981, Kaliev led the development of optimal parameters for prospective agro-industrial formations, specializing in horticulture, cotton cultivation, livestock breeding, and sheep breeding. In October 1984, he became the director of the Kazakh Scientific Research Technological Institute of Sheep Breeding.

Political and Public Service

Kaliev's influence extended beyond academia. In 1990, he was elected to the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR (1990-1993). In 1991-1996, he served as the president of the Kazakh Academy of Agricultural Sciences. From 1992, he was the president of the Republican Association of Peasant (Farmer) Households.

In 1999, Kaliev was elected as a deputy of the Mazhilis Parliament of Kazakhstan (1999-2004). He also chaired the political party "Auyl."

Recognition and Honors

Kaliev received numerous accolades for his contributions. He was awarded the following:
