Early Life and Education

Gegham Garibjanyan was born on October 2, 1951, in Yerevan, Armenia. He studied at Yerevan State University, graduating in 1973 with a degree in Oriental Studies. In 1994, he attended the University of Southern California's Senior Executive Program in Public Administration.

Professional Career

Early Career in Diplomacy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs

From 1973 to 1978, Garibjanyan served as Senior Officer at the Department of East under the Committee for Cultural Relations with Armenians Abroad. He was then deployed to Iran for two years as a translator. From 1981 to 1991, he returned to the Committee for Cultural Relations, holding the positions of Senior Officer and Head of Department.

Garibjanyan was appointed Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security of Armenia from 1991 to 1995. He subsequently served as a Member of the National Assembly from 1995 to 1999, holding various leadership positions, including Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health, and Nature Protection.

Ambassadorial Appointments

In 1999, Garibjanyan was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Iran, a position he held until 2005. He concurrently served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2009. From 2009 to 2012, he was Secretary General of the National Assembly of Armenia.

Garibjanyan was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates from 2012 to 2018. In 2013, he was also appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar. His residence was initially in Abu Dhabi, but was moved to Doha in 2019.

Other Roles and Commissions

Garibjanyan has also participated in various intergovernmental commissions, including the Armenian-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation and the Armenian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation.

Honors and Awards

Garibjanyan has received numerous awards and honors, including the "Mkhitar Gosh" Medal (2011), the "Dрастамат Kанаян" Medal (2009), and the Order of the Grand Duke Vladimir II Degree (2007). He is also a recipient of the "Fridtjof Nansen" Gold Medal (2007) and the "For Strengthening Cooperation" Medal from the Armenian Police (2007).

Personal Life

Garibjanyan is married to Aida M. Avagyan, and they have two daughters (Anush and Ani) and one son (Tiran). They also have two grandchildren (Spartiak and Arthur).
