Biography of Geli Raubal
Geli Raubal, full name Angela Maria Raubal, was born in 1908 and passed away on September 18, 1931, in Munich. She was the niece of Adolf Hitler, being the daughter of his step-sister Angela Raubal (daughter of Alois Hitler and Franziska Matzelsberger) and a tax office employee.
A Special Connection
Geli Raubal, often referred to as simply "Geli," was likely the only person whom Hitler genuinely loved. They first met in Berchtesgaden in 1925 when Geli was just 17 years old. Hitler was immediately captivated by the blonde-haired girl with a pleasant, soft voice. In 1929, Hitler rented a large apartment on Prinzregentenstrasse in Munich and moved Geli there. He took her everywhere with him - to rallies, conferences, cafes, and theaters.
Dreams and Jealousy
Geli fervently wished to become an opera singer and hoped for her uncle's support in pursuing this dream. However, when rumors began circulating that Hitler intended to marry Winifred Wagner, the widow of composer Richard Wagner's son Siegfried Wagner, Geli was devastated. In turn, Hitler suspected Geli of having a secret love affair with his bodyguard, Emil Maurice.
In the summer of 1931, Geli, tired of Hitler's despotism and constant raging jealousy, planned to move to Vienna. However, when Hitler left for Hamburg on September 17th for a pre-election campaign, he vehemently forbade her from doing so.
Tragic End
On September 18, 1931, Geli was found shot to death in Hitler's Munich apartment. Hitler was deeply affected by the loss of his beloved niece. The true circumstances surrounding Geli Raubal's death were never fully revealed. There were rumors that Hitler himself killed her in a fit of jealousy. Another version suggested that Heinrich Himmler took care of disposing of the girl who distracted the Führer from party affairs. There was also speculation about Geli committing suicide, knowing about Hitler's relationship with Eva Braun since October 1929.
Father Bernard, a priest who knew a lot about Hitler's and Geli Raubal's relationship, was later found shot dead in a forest near Munich. Despite investigations being initiated, no concrete results were obtained, and the case was eventually closed.
