Biography of General George Casey

General George Casey has been approved by the US Senate as the new Chief of Staff of the Army, the highest-ranking position in the United States Army. Born in 1948 in Japan, Casey comes from a military family. His father, Major General George Casey Sr., served in three wars - World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, he lost his life in Vietnam on July 7, 1970.

Early Life and Education

In the same year his father passed away, Casey Jr. graduated from Georgetown University and enlisted in the US Armed Forces. He began his military career serving in the infantry and later participated in the military operation in Bosnia from 1996 to 1997.

Command and Leadership

From 2001 to 2004, Casey worked at the Pentagon and the Army Staff, where he led the Department of Strategic Planning and Policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In June 2004, he replaced Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez as the commanding general of the Multinational Force in Iraq, a position he held until recently.

Appointment as Chief of Staff

With extensive experience in Iraq, Casey was highly regarded by the Senate, with 83 senators voting in favor of his appointment as Chief of Staff, while 14 expressed their opposition. Senator Carl Levin, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, praised Casey's knowledge of Iraq and his understanding of the challenges faced by the US armed forces in the country.

Future Expectations

In January 2007, Casey expressed confidence that progress could be seen in the situation in Iraq within the next two to three months. As the new Chief of Staff of the Army, Casey will play a crucial role in leading and guiding the US Army in its missions and operations.
