Early Life and EducationMarcel Grandjany was born in Paris into a family of musicians. His mother was a renowned harpist, and Marcel studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he graduated as a harpist in 1947 under Marcel Tournier. He also pursued studies in harmony with Noëlie Gallon and composition with Tony Aubin.
Conducting Career
In 1956, Grandjany won the Besançon International Young Conductors' Competition for "non-professionals," making him one of the few harpists to achieve significant success as a conductor. From 1970 to 1990, he led the prestigious Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, notable for its premiere performance of Henri Sauguet's Symphony No. 4 in 1971.
Harp Pedagogy
Since 1963, Grandjany has taught harp at the Paris Conservatory. His expertise and dedication have shaped generations of young harpists, solidifying his legacy as a master педагоgue.
