Biography of Gerda Christian
Gerda Christian was the personal secretary of Adolf Hitler during World War II. She was born Gerda Daranowski and began working for the Führer in 1937 after his previous secretaries, Johanna Wolf and Christa Schroeder, could not handle the heavy workload.
Marriage and Departure from Hitler's Office
In February 1943, Gerda married Luftwaffe officer Erhard Christian, which led to her departure from Hitler's office. Traudl Junge was hired as her replacement, but Gerda returned to her position after a few months.
End of the War and Post-War Life
On May 1, 1945, Gerda attempted to escape occupied Berlin with a large group that included Hitler's secretaries Elisabeth Krüger and Traudl Junge. They hid in the basement of a destroyed building, but were captured by Soviet soldiers on the morning of May 2.
After the war, Gerda settled in Düsseldorf and worked at a hotel. She became friends with Werner Naumann, the leader of a neo-Nazi organization. Gerda Christian passed away from cancer in Düsseldorf in 1997 at the age of 83.
Legacy
The character of Gerda has been portrayed in numerous films, serving as the inspiration for various on-screen adaptations.
