Career at Liverpool
The English footballer began his professional career with Liverpool in 1957, having been a product of the club's youth academy. He remained with the Reds until 1969, during which time he helped the club win two First Division titles, an FA Cup, three Charity Shields, and reach the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup. He made his debut on September 28, 1957, and played his final match on April 5, 1969.
International Career
The defender made his England debut against Scotland at Wembley in 1963. In 1966, he was included in the World Cup squad but did not play a single match. Nevertheless, he received a winner's medal as part of the victorious team.
Recognition
In 2009, along with other members of England's 1966 World Cup squad who had not featured in the final, he received a gold medal.
