Junior Godoi
Early Life and CareerBrazilian midfielder Junior Godoi embarked on his football journey at 13 years old in Brazil. He honed his skills at the youth academy of Palmeiras and reportedly also underwent training at São Paulo. At age 19, he secured his first professional contract with Palmeiras before moving on to represent União Barbarense.
Arrival in Ukraine
In 2003, Junior made a significant move to the Crimean club Tavriya Simferopol, facilitated by his agent. With Tavriya, he debuted in the Ukrainian Premier League on March 14, 2004, against Dynamo Kyiv. In a match against Volyn Lutsk on November 6, 2005, he recorded the 500th goal in Tavriya's Ukrainian Premier League history. As a key player, he participated in 70 Premier League games, scoring 11 goals, and also contributed to the team's performances in the Ukrainian Cup. However, disagreements with coach Mykhailo Fomenko led to his departure from Tavriya.
Transfer to Legia Warsaw
In August 2006, Junior joined Legia Warsaw as a free agent on a four-year contract. Despite reports linking him to Romanian clubs Steaua Bucharest and Rapid Bucharest, Legia secured his services for €500,000. He made his Ekstraklasa debut on September 8, 2006, against Arka Gdynia. In a Europa League match against Austria Wien on September 14, 2006, he scored his first goal for Legia. However, despite his strong start, a knee injury sidelined him for seven months. In the 2006/07 season, Legia finished as bronze medalists, behind Belchatow and Zagłębie Lubin. Junior featured in 13 league matches, scoring once, and also appeared in the Polish Cup and the Ekstraklasa Cup.
Return to Ukraine and Brazil
After an unsuccessful trial with Metalist Kharkiv in 2008, Junior signed with FC Zorya Luhansk in September of the same year. He debuted for the club against FC Kharkiv on September 20, 2008, scoring a goal. He became a regular starter, playing in 14 matches and scoring 4 goals in the 2008/09 season. After leaving Zorya in 2009, Junior returned to Brazil to coach youth teams while maintaining his fitness. In 2010, he briefly joined Vila Nova in the Brazilian Serie B and subsequently played for Londrina.
Final Chapter with FC Metalurh Zaporizhzhya
In September 2010, Junior signed for FC Metalurh Zaporizhzhya. He made his debut in an away match against Vorskla Poltava on September 26, 2010. In October 2010, he helped Metalurh win the Kucherevskyi Cup by defeating Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the final. However, tragedy struck in November 2010 when he suffered a serious shoulder injury in a collision with Karpaty Lviv goalkeeper Vitaliy Rudenko. He was stretchered off the field and underwent surgery under anesthesia, which kept him out of action for several months.
Despite the injury setback, Junior re-emerged as a vital player and captain for Metalurh. However, their 2010/11 season ended in relegation to the Ukrainian First League after finishing last in the Premier League. Junior scored 2 goals in 19 appearances that season.
