Goh Chok Tong: Second Prime Minister of Singapore

On November 28, 1990, Goh Chok Tong became the second Prime Minister of Singapore, succeeding Lee Kuan Yew. He held the position until August 12, 2004. Upon the request of the new Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, Goh remained in the Government as a Senior Minister and also headed the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Goh Chok Tong had been a member of the Central Executive Committee of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) since 1979, serving as its Deputy Secretary-General (1979-1984), First Deputy Secretary-General (1984-1992), and Secretary-General (1992-2004). He stepped down as head of the PAP in December 2004.

Personal Life

Goh Chok Tong's wife is Tan Chor Leng, a lawyer. They have two children, a son and a daughter. Goh is an avid golfer and tennis player.
