Early LifeGreg Fitzsimmons was born and raised in Tarrytown, New York. His father, Bob Fitzsimmons, was a prominent New York radio and television personality, known for hosting "Good Day New York" and the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Jerry Lewis Telethon. Greg's mother, Patricia Marie Judith (née McCarthy), was a talented actress.
Career
Stand-up ComedyFitzsimmons began his stand-up comedy career while attending Boston University, where he studied English and was a member of the comedy troupe Uncontrolled Substance. He made his late-night debut on "The Late Show with David Letterman" in 1996.
Writing
In 2003, Fitzsimmons became a writer for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," where he earned one Emmy nomination and four Daytime Emmy Awards. He also wrote for "Cedric the Entertainer," "Men Behaving Badly," "The Wanda Sykes Show," and most recently, the HBO series "Crashing."
Television
Fitzsimmons hosted MTV's "Idiot Savants" in 1996, which won a CableACE Award for Best Game Show Special or Series. He was a regular panelist on "Vh1 Best Week Ever" from 2004 to 2009 and made over 40 appearances on "Chelsea Lately" from 2010 to 2014. From 2006 to 2018, Fitzsimmons hosted "The Greg Fitzsimmons Show" on SiriusXM Howard 101.
Podcasting
Fitzsimmons hosts the comedy podcast "Fitzdog Radio," which features interviews with celebrities, musical guests, and comedians. The show welcomes listener calls and has over 1,000 episodes as of August 2023. He also co-hosts "Sunday Papers" with Mike Gibbons and "Childish" with comedian Alison Rosen.
Personal Life
Fitzsimmons is married and has two children. He is the cousin of professional golfer Denny McCarthy.
